Measuring Automation: Hours Back, Errors and Cycle Time

An automation is only worth it if it changes something you can see. Before you start, pick a few measures and record where you are today.

Hours back

How long does the task take by hand, and how often does it happen? Prescriptions entered per day, invoices matched per week, bookings placed per day. Multiply it out. That is the time you can give back to your team.

Errors

Count the mistakes that come from manual entry: wrong quantities, missed copay adjustments, duplicate invoices. Automations that read and check data consistently reduce these, and the savings are often bigger than the time saved.

Cycle time

How long from request to done? A booking request that waited hours for someone to key it in can be placed within the next automated run.

Exceptions

Track how many items the automation could not handle. A rising exception rate is an early warning that a system or process has changed.

Keep it simple

Three or four numbers, measured before and after, are enough. If you want help setting a baseline, it is part of our free automation assessment.
